Between 150 m to 1,961 m is the elevation of the plateau. Khasi Hills has the highest elevations Jaintia Hills region. Meghalaya in the Shillong Peak is the highest point.

Meghalaya is considered as the wettest place on earth with average rainfall about 12,000 mm. Its climate is influenced by elevation and distribution of physical relief and hence, the Meghalaya plateau has 4 distinct seasons: They are:

  • The rainy season (May to early October)
  • The cool season (early October to November)
  • The cold season (December to February)
  • The warm season or hot season (March to April)

For most of the year Garo Hills with lower elevations, experiences high temperatures whereas The Shillong area, with the highest elevations, generally has low temperatures with the maximum temperature rarely going beyond 28 ° C, whereas below-zero winter temperatures are common.
